1. Learn continuously
Knowledge is growth. In a world that is constantly evolving, to stay mentally stagnant is equivalent to decreasing your mental ability by comparison. There is always new information available to learn. Read more, talk to others, continue to consume as much knowledge as you can! It will only make you more well rounded.
2. Prioritize health and wellness first
You are capable of achieving great things, but you must be capable of getting there. Be mindful of your body, what it needs, and practice a healthy lifestyle. Prioritizing your well-being will trickle goodness in other areas of your life.
3. Visualize your goals
Motivate yourself. Don’t just dream about your goal, envision yourself having attained it so you work even harder to make it happen.
4. Set an action plan and conquer
Speaking of goals, setting them is good, but take it to the next level. Create a plan of the steps you’ll take to reach your goals and execute them! Set your goal, visualize them, create the plan and conquer!
5. Persist and persevere
You don’t have to like it, but running into barriers while trying to achieve your goals is inevitable. How you handle these situations is what determines your destiny. Do not give up! Work through these obstacles and continue to strive for greatness. If you fail, get back up and try again. Being fearful of failure is being uncomfortable about what you’ll learn to succeed in your second attempt.
6. Be self-aware and reflect
Leverage your strengths and recognize your weaknesses. Take time regularly to reflect on your experiences, where are you improving and what you can do better. Be confident in your abilities and take pride in your achievements, but remain humble.
7. Practice gratitude
Gratitude allows you to recognize the bad, be thankful for your opportunities, and appreciate the future. It puts everything into perspective so you can be more appreciative and be happier in life.
8. Practice mindfulness
Take a moment every day be fully present in the moment. Be aware of who you are and what you’re doing. In this time, refrain from being overstimulated or overwhelmed by all that’s happening around you. As a result, you will better manage your emotions and react thoughtfully.
9. Be a good listener
Do not just hear, listen. Open your ears, but also your mind. Value can be found in other people’s words and you’ll gain respect by listening to them.
10. Communicate clearly
The purpose of speaking is to be understood. Speak complete and concise thoughts, leaving little to no room for uncertainty.
11. Be proactive
Don’t be the person waiting to be told what to do. Be the person who is already two steps ahead. Stay ahead of the game, it’s much easier to take a few steps back than rushing ahead one. Leaders are never afraid to take initiative.
12. Take responsibility
Mistakes will always happen and things won’t go as planned sometimes. It’s okay, it happens to everyone, but take responsibility for any faults and refrain from placing blame on others. In the end, you will be respected for your honesty and your efforts to resolve your mistakes.
Taking responsibility also means following through with your commitments. Once you give your word to do something, you become responsible for ensuring its completion. Be responsible and remain reliable, in turn you’ll be respected.
13. Don’t multi-task
We are constantly being conditioned that multi-tasking is valuable and a must have skill. It can be true to an extent, however, many successful people prefer to divide and conquer. With a busy schedule and a relentless list of to-dos, it is important to focus on one task at a time and delegate where applicable. Give one thing your full attention and invest your effort into it until it’s complete. Then, move on to the next priority task.
14. Know your values
You have to put in effort to reach your goals, but don’t burn yourself out trying to revolve your life solely around that. Decide what you value most in life and prioritizes accordingly whether it be friends, family, or fun.
15. Discipline and self-control
Don’t let what others are doing tonight distract you from your path; they’re working towards a different vision. Contain your fear of missing out and focus on your journey.
16. Surround yourself with the right people
The people around you can either build you up or tear you down. Choose like-minded, equally ambitious individuals to grow with. Surrounding yourself with individuals who choose to remain stagnant may put your goal driven outlook and motivation at risk.
Plus, every successful person has high and low moments, that’s just how life happens and you’ll need the encouragement of a good support system to assist you through your journey.
17. Plan in advance
Putting things off until last minute is often an unnecessary risk. When rushed, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to complete tasks to the best of your ability. Plan schedules, events, etc. in advance to ensure you can put your best effort into it. Make sure your AT-A-GLANCE planner is always prepared at least a day in advance.
Consistency is key. Create an efficient routine so you’ll know what to expect, saving time and energy to focus on other things. Allow your mind to be at ease by not burdening it with uncertainty.
19. Record thoughts and ideas
Life gets hectic, which makes it easy to forget things. Keeping track of your thoughts and ideas allows you to reference them at a more convenient time, when you can expand upon them. So many brilliant possibilities have been lost in thought. It’s time to finally seize those opportunities!
Although this has been implied through some of the previous points, it is crucial and deserves to be its own. When you don’t believe you can accomplish something, you won’t. Confidence is essential in each and every endeavor. When you feel good mentally, you do better physically. You can do it – believe in yourself.
